This class is designed to engage you with meaningful experiential faculty-led service learning centered on the mental health problems, issues, and treatment approaches in Germany and how they contrast with those perspectives in America. The course is linked to and integrated with one or more semester courses. This class will provide opportunities for meaningful interactions and service with people in present agencies or who are working on projects concerning psychology, mental health, and treatment. Trips to historic sites and locations prominent in psychology and psychological services will be included in the experience.

 

COREQUISITE: enrollment in concurrent approved psychology course is recommended, not required. Recommended course: PSYC 325 Abnormal Psychology

Projects and Partners:

Like all of our Service Learning Journeys in Germany, we will support several partner schools and communities in Berlin. This course will be customized so that your projects are directly linked to your area of study or interest.  All of the details, logistics and programs will be planned in advance for you. We will create an experience that you will remember forever because you had the chance to understand more about your area of study and make a difference in the lives of others. Lodging:

While in Berlin, you will stay in a quaint guest house on the south side of the city. You will be near Potsdamer Platz, Humboldt, Museum Island and many other historical attractions. The location is convenient to all of our community service partners. During your time in Munich, we will stay just inside the city, at a hotel which keeps you close enough to explore everything this city has to offer.

Travel Information, Deposits, team meetings:

You will fly from Kansas City or Wichita (TBD) to Berlin. From there, we will explore and train to Leipzig and then Munich. You will have maps and information for each city. Full details about this Service Learning Journey will be provided in a journey packet which you will receive prior to your depature.

A $500.00 deposit is due upon registration no later than October 1, 2014. An additional payment of $1000.00 is due on or before November 1, 2014. Remaining balance is due on or before December 1, 2014.

Team meetings will be planned prior to your departure to discuss your course, travel arrangements, packing tips, and everything you will need to have a fulfilling and memorable experience!
