Learning from History (or not): Civil Rights in Germany before and after 1945

From Friday, March 13, 2015
To Sunday, March 22, 2015

Your Journey and Course Listing:

Exclusively with Kansas Wesleyan University we present a 2 credit hour course and Service Learning Journey to remember! This is listed as HIST286 with Dr. Russell. For specific course content or syllabus please contact Dr. Russell at: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

This course provides students an opportunity to strengthen values and abilities through a meaningful experiential faculty-led Service Learning Journey. Our service focus will be with led2serveU's long-term community partners at the Turkish Community Center. Along with the service projects, we will visit historical sites in Berlin, Munich, and Nuremberg that will allow us to investigate some of the race relations/civil rights in Germany, primarily those related to Nazis, the Holocaust, and the Cold War. Throughout our Journey a key focus will be reflection - reflection on the causes of social problems, on possible resolutions to these problems (and why these possible resolutions have not been implemented and what it would take to implement them), and reflection on what we have learned from our service learning journey and historical inquiry in Germany.

Projects and Partners:

Like all of our Service Learning Journeys in Germany, we will support several partner schools and communities in Berlin. This course will be customized so that your projects are directly linked to your area of study or interest.  All of the details, logistics and programs will be planned in advance for you. We will create an experience that you will remember forever because you had the chance to understand more about your area of study and make a difference in the lives of others. For specific details on projects or partners contact: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

While in Berlin, you will stay in a quaint guest house on the south side of the city. You will be near Potsdamer Platz, Humboldt, Museum Island and many other historical attractions. The location is convenient to all of our community service partners. During your time in Munich, we will stay just inside the city, at a hotel which keeps you close enough to explore everything this city has to offer.

Alumni Offering:

As an Alumni of Kansas Wesleyan University, you may travel with the team and enjoy a credit of $150.00 toward your Journey. Email This email address is being protected from spambots.
